SOLAS Chapter III requires ships to carry life-saving appliances and arrangements. The LSA Code (International Life-Saving Appliance Code) provides the detailed technical performance and testing standards for those appliances (lifeboats, liferafts, lifejackets, etc.). In practice: SOLAS says what must be provided and arranged; the LSA Code specifies how that equipment must perform.
